Sparkly Green Earrings Book Review and GIVEAWAY

I was blessed to be picked to review Sparkly Green Earrings by Melanie Shankle who is the author of The Big Mama Blog.  She is also a regular contributor to The Pioneer Woman Blog and she serves as the emcee for LifeWay's annual DotMom conference.   She lives in San Antonio with here husband, Perry and their daughter, Caroline.

It’s not easy, but someone has to do it.

Okay. Y’all. Here’s the thing about motherhood. Before I had a child of my own, it was super easy. I had a lot of opinions about the right way to discipline, the way my child would dress, and how she would never throw a fit in public or embarrass me at the grocery store. I also believed the entire experience would be sweet and clean and beautiful, like one of those baby lotion commercials. (Bless my heart.)
Then I had Caroline.
And you know what? Real motherhood is different. It’s messier. It’s complicated. And it is … So. Much. Better.
It breaks your heart and makes you laugh harder than you ever could have imagined. It’s a little frightening. A lot gut wrenching. And quite possibly the most important thing you will ever do.
That’s what this book is about—my story about those fleeting moments that get swallowed up in the daily routine of car pools and soccer practice but come together in an indescribable way to make you a mama.
If you’re looking for an expert on the subject of motherhood, then I suggest you put this book down immediately. But if you just need to know you’re not the only person who has debated running away to a five-star hotel after spending hours “helping” your child with a school project, this is for you. (You are my people.)
If nothing else, I hope it will keep you warm at night knowing someone else shares your brand of crazy.
Melanie (aka Big Mama)

Pamela's Review ~ 5 out of 5
You have to read this book that's all I can say! When I read a book, I usually have a cup of hot tea on the side, sometimes I read the book so fast I am half way through on the day I first open the book.  That's how this book was for me, I told Melanie that I thought I was reading about myself, this is a must read!  If you are a mother, or wanting to be a mother you need to read this book! There are  different chapters about No sleep, Potty training and so much more!
There was one part in the book that I could so much relate to, with going through a miscarriage; we had 5 wonderful boys already (that are the loves of our lives), so I took for granted being able to get pregnant.  When that day came and at 14 weeks, I was told that my baby didn't have a heartbeat I didn't understand what God was doing.  Then I had to go in for a D&C, and I remember when I was laying there in the surgery room about to be put under God gave me such peace!  (Not to say that I didn't go through grieving) Melanie says it so clear in her book when she uses Isaiah 55:12 and 2010 God blessed us with a baby girl that is the love of our lives,  God will bring the joy back into your life! I can go on and on, but I have good news for you!

I have an extra copy to giveaway to one of my readers

  8. Wow. Even when you don't post a recipe (and I think this is the first visit where I've NOT seen one), you serve up good stuff. I waited 35 years to become a mother and it ALL changed when they wheeled my eldest's bassinet into my room. Since then I've been puttering around the mother room with a blindfold on. ;)
